Yenita Singer – Founder

I first travelled to Kenya in April 2018, as part of a Learning Disability Nursing placement and immediately the people I met there found a place in my heart. However, the children I met had such potential but were being disabled by the lack of support to express what they were capable of and lack of access to what we would consider basic necessities.

Inspired by the hope of better, my fundraising developed into a dream of doing more, and settling up a charity to improve quality of life for these wonderful people.

After qualifying as a Learning Disability Nurse, I have worked in Learning Disability inpatients and in Neuro Rehab. Following completion of an Adult Nursing MSc, I worked on a Surgical ward and long term complex care before moving to Australia to experience healthcare there.

Cheryl Thomas – Trustee

I became a trustee for bright eye organisation after meeting Yenita 3 years ago and learning about the voluntary/charity work she was involved in out in Kenya. I was in awe (and still am) of her dedication to improve the health of people with disabilities there.

Raising money to pay for water filtration, mobility equipment, moulded seat kits so people with swallowing difficulties can be in a better position to support safer swallow when eating…. the list goes on. Also having seen the difference special schooling has made to one boy, who s family are unable to pay for this, is overwhelming. To be able to support people with disabilities to have better health and education is a privilege.

My background is learning disability nursing, so this cause is close to my heart and I was astounded at the lack of health provision available.
