Education

At the start of 2025, we hired the first full time SEN teacher to attend SCOM and provide the residents an education. Prior to this, many of the children had not had the opportunity to attend school due the unaffordability of SEN school fees in comparison to parental income.

A therapist also attends biweekly to provide massage therapy to many of the residents with cerebral palsy.

Sponsorship

With many families living in poverty and unable to provide care for their relatives with disabilities at home, SCOM centre provides a safe place to stay, with 24hr support staff, 3 meals a day, clean drinking water, education, therapy and healthcare as required.

Unfortunately this comes with a cost. The sponsorship program was set up as a way to provide these services to individuals with some financial support.

Healthcare

Healthcare in Kenya costs, whether it is accessed by a private, government or community facility. It is identified in the Kenyan Constitution as a basic human need but unfortunately remains inaccessible to many.

For this reason, many people choose to wait instead of seeking treatment when symptoms arise. Our aim is to prevent deterioration of the residents conditions by ensuring they can access healthcare as soon as these needs arise
